Mt Surmon

We decided in 1994 that a challenging adventure in the most beautiful Clare Valley would be our tree change, on our 400 m hillside, with its spectacular northerly vistas.

We planted fifty acres of vines between 1995 and 2000 including alternative varieties Pinot Gris, Nebbiolo and Viognier. At that time these were little heard-of varieties in Australia.

We opened Scarlattis cellar door art gallery in 2001 along with The Retreat and launched our Mt Surmon Wines label a year later.

The richness of our lives on the mount comes from what we do and how we do it, in our freelance world of enquiry and invention.

We support the following local charities:

  • Stanley Flat Memorial Hall
  • Apex Clare
  • Rotary Clare
  • Horrocks Cottage
  • Clare Valley Library
  • Heartbeat
  • Brooks Lookout.
  • VAAPA
  • 'We're like no other'
